History

The first Chinese yo yo's were made of bamboo and received many names when european traders put them on the market such as devil on two sticks because of its difficulty to learn. It became very popular between both adults and children. In 1906, Gustav Philippart made his version of the Chinese yo yo the diabolo. It had big changes to the original yo yo but you still had to use 2 sticks and a string though so many still called it a chinese yo yo. Gustav's version had two open cups and was made of rubber (you can see this on the home page)

How To Use It

First you have to make the yo yo spin. You do this by putting each stick in a hand. After that, you put the yo yo on the ground with the bowl facing you.

Then put the string in the crack and roll the diabolo to the opposite direction of your dominant hand. After that start tapping up and down with your dominant hand. You got the basics!

Tricks

The diabolo is one of the most exiting props to watch! This is because you can throw it high in the sky and catch it on a tiny string! This astounds people! Even if there are many other cool tricks. For example you can keep bouncing it after throwing it! You do this by bouncing back up in the air after throwing it. There are so many things you can do with this amazing toy! Another trick you can pull off is the elevator. You do this by spinning the yo yo very fast and putting your string around it.
