What is a Tessellation?
A Tessellation is a shape that is repeated multiple times to cover it without any spaces or anything overlaping.
There are 4 types of symmetry. The first one is rotation.Rotation is when an object is turned 90 degrees. The 2nd type is a reflectionA reflection is when a object produce a mirror image. The 3rd type is called Translation. It means to move the object without rotating it or reflecting it.The last type is called glide reflection. It combines a reflection and a translation. It is the only type of symmetry that require more than 1 step.
No one knows who invented tessellations, but artist M. C. Escher and mathematician Sir Roger Penrose made tessellations more popular.
Tessellations can be found in many places. It can be found in nature, interior designs, and in landscapes.
