Isadora Duncan created and performed her own choreography to the wealthier class of this era. Which is when she become a very well-known success in Budapest, Hungary. She also got herself captured in paintings, poetry ad sculpturing on top of modern dance - she repeatedly sold out shows. She enjoyed breaking the rules of Traditional Ballet and changed it to suit the human body and free flowing moves - her style was debated by the viewers.
She shared the title 'Mother of Modern Dance' with another big influence on modern dance, Martha Graham.

Laban discovered the system of dance notation - Labanotation in which records and analyzes human movement. He focused on dance in education and he felt very deeply about it- he was the first person to develop dance in the community.
Laban felt everyone was entitled to dance in the community, no matter what class you came from He was the director of Chamber Dance Theatre Company - he kept up his love of arts by writing articles, creating books, still performing in shows and creating choreography.
He carried on with his love of creating schools of opening 25 Laban schools and chei sier children.
'Dresden Central School' was created by Mary Wigman. She taught her students expressionist dance which is a term for a movement that arose in 1900 as a protest against the lack of activity of classical ballet and towards maturing the art in the future.
The few of her students (Hanya Holm, Yvonne Georgi, Gret Palucca and Harald Kreutzberg) became expressionists from her teaching.
She toured to England in 1931, she then went on to sell two more tours in America

Kurt Jooss studied music, until he found Rudolf Laban and trained alongside of him. After dancing alongside Laban, Kurt then went on to choreographing for the New Dance Stage. He then attended ballet lessons in Paris and Vienna on his return back from Germany - he then founded his own dance school and company.
In 1930, he then became Ballet Master to the Essen Opera House.The Green Table in 1932 that won 1st place in the International Archives of Dance in Paris was choreographed by Kurt Jooss. From this winning, his ballet group 'Ballet loss' were well known -
Martha Graham - the choreographer, choreographed for 70 years and she created her own company The company had so many well known modern dancers in, for example - Merce Cunningham. Her dance style is very free flowing and relaxed, it links very well with lamentation style of dance.
Martha Graham traveled to New Mexico in the 1930s, where she found her influence in the oriental theater and took advantage of props and the various dance styles.
By 1940's, her company was visiting the world on their tours. The company was a success, especially in Europe in 1954
Humphreys and her partner, Weidman company finally made it to New York City.
By most critics, these two were considered to be an innovator of the new modern dance. Humphreys technique is still being taught and interpreted into other choreography created by practitioners.
'Fall and Recover' was used throughout her choreography - this was a main part of her technique that was founded in her teaching rnethod.

Jose Limon's dance company was the first to tour and travel abroad. Some of their trips were to visit the culture of the USA. They were the first to open New York Shakespeare Festival Theatre in 1952 as well as being the frist to travel.
Their first dance show to be performed in 1963 was at New Yorks in Lincoln Center
