Operational Loss

  • Damages of the operating capability of an organisation, such as through a loss of:
  • manufacturing output
  • service ability & data

  • For example, computers controlling manufacturing machinery could be taken down, which would halt the manufacturing of a businesses products.

  • Or, a denial-of-service attack on a website would halt the businesses ability to make sales.

Financial Loss

  • Damages to the wealth of an organisation, such as through:
  • organisation losses
  • compensation & legal fees

  • For example, the cost of replacing damaged equipment from sabotage.

  • Or, legal fees and compensation due to the impact on individuals.

Reputation Loss

  • The loss of trust and lowered opinion of people to a business, such as through the:
  • lack of service
  • employee or customer information

  • For example, services taken may cause people not wanting to use the service due to availability concerns.

  • Or, data on employees & customers being stolen causing trust over the business handling their data in future.

Intellectual Property Loss

  • When product designs or trade secrets are stolen, thus adversely affecting the organisation.

  • For example, a competitor stealing a product design & releasing a rival product based on it.
