Nicaragua is a country that is located in the south part off Central America. It is between Honduras and Costa Rica, and has a ocean on both sides of Nicaragua.

Nicaragua is in Central America, so it has two seasons: a dry and a rainy season. The dry season (January-June) there is no rain so trees and plants start to dry out. Then from the end of June to July all plants start to grow back.

Nicaragua has three major geographic regions

  • The pacific lowlands
  • The Caribbean lowlands
  • Central highlands

Early Years

Europeans explored Nicaragua in 1522 by Gill Gonzalez de Avila . The next year 1523 when the Spanish came leading with Leon and Granada. The native people were then forced to start working, which started conflict. Then in 1838 Nicaragua became completly independent, because in 1821 part of Central America Broke off of the Spanish control.

Modern Nicaragua

Nicaragua began a long Guerilla war in 1961.In 1972 Managua was struck by a severe earthquake.
