Rory McIlroy's Practices...

Rory McIlroy

(2012/14/19)

Rory McIlroy has been deemed PGA Tour Champion 3 times in the past 10 years. This is no simple feat, it takes serious dedication and practice to accomplish this, let alone 3 times. McIlroy likes to start off his warm up with some easy-wedge pitch shots and works his way up through the bag, all the way up to driver. However, these practices are only right before tournaments. Let's take a look at his practice habits during the week.

McIlroy likes to have lots of drilling in his regular daily practices. The drilling helps with feel and preserves the swing on the course and during tournaments.

Brooks Koepka's Practices

Brooks Koepka

(2018)

As we've seen with many other winners on this list, Koepka starts with smaller/shorter clubs and makes his way up. Surprisingly, Koepka isn't as big on practice and admits he only practices before majors (the 4 biggest PGA tournaments of the year).

Jason Dufner's Practices...

Jason Dufner

(2012)

"I work hard on the range with these things [iron full shots], I wanna point that out." This is from Jason Dufner while doing an interview on the range. He was working on iron shots. "I'm not trying to be competitive... I'm trying to get my body to do something... drills help." These are all wise words from Dufner giving us an insight on his thought process while practicing. He does not worry about the results because it is a practice and not yet a tournament.

Collin Morikawa's Practices

Colin Morikawa

(2020)

Collin Morikawa starts all of his practices off with wedge shots and works his way up (wedge, short iron, long iron, hybrid, three wood, and driver). Morikawa slows down his swing before playing to get the right feel down. An important thing to note is that Morikawa's swing looks the same EVERY time, even when the clubs changed.

Patrick Cantlay's Practices

Patrick Cantlay

(2021)

Patrick Cantlay is the latest of the PGA tour winners and my personal favorite. He works a lot on thoughts on the course and ethical practices. Cantlay works on drilling a lot to the point where he needs his caddie to hold a club up on his right shoulder for the swing. Cantlay is also known for being one of the best putters on tour so he spends ample time on the putting green.

Jordan Spieth's Practices

Jordan Spieth

(2015)

Jordan Spieth, like many other pros is very big on practice. However, Spieth does not just focus on practice, but he also says that getting his 8 hours in bed is vital to his success. Also, before EVERY shot, even in practice, he has a go-to drill to execute. Spieth's practices isn't just hit 100 balls, he focuses on feeling and drilling, even on tournaments.

Dustin Johnson's Practices

Dustin Johnson

(2016)

Dustin Johnson is an up-and-coming player or some people say the next best thing. His flair and finesse on the course make him so likeable and successful but like any other pro he puts countless hours into practice. Johnson starts small, just lobbing shots with his wedge, and works his way up through the bag. In warm ups he calibrates all of his distances and types of shots to see what he can and can't do that day.

Justin Thomas' Practices

Justin Thomas

(2017)

Justin Thomas is a young player who, at one point, just couldn't stop winning. I admire Thomas a lot because he brings a great humor and joy to the game. He has a light personality and while he takes the game seriously, he likes to make small talk and snarky but funny remarks. He also is one of the better shot-shapers in the game today, but this skill doesn't come over night. Thomas' dad is a renown coach and often spent time working with Thomas on the course. Thomas also isn't a fan of repeatedly hitting balls without purpose, but he also likes to go into the more in-depth feel.
