Before the Model T, cars were made for the rich. Many people used horses or trains for transportation, but when Ford introduced this new affordable veichle in 1908 they quickly made the switch.
Over 15 million units of the car were sold during the time it was on the market, which at the time was the most individually. It was said that in 1920 half of the registered veichles in the world were Ford Model T models.

The Ford Model T was one of the first cars to be mass produced and led to the industrialization of the vehicles in our modern world as one of the most used transportation systems. The Ford Model T revolutionized affordability and brought a new customer population to the interesting world of extraordinary innovative inventions.
On every street in Canada, you can see at least one car, and the Ford Model T was the reason behind it. Almost all Canadian citizens making an income can buy a car, no matter how much they make. In December of 2019, it was reported that 35 million cars had been registered. This number shows just how much cars are apart of our daily lives.
Created in Canda, Fredrick Banting created Insulin in 1921. Insulin is a drug used to help glucose enter the body, so that it can be used for energy.
We believe that Insulin is the most defining moment for Canadians due to the number of Canadian lives it has saved and continuously saving.
Insulin single-handedly increased life expectancy for thousands of Canadians at its time of release, which shows us it's historical significance.
At the time of discovery, diabetes was a disease that quickly caught onto the younger population. Although, the use of Insulin treated the younger citizens, saving the next generation of Canadians at the time.
Therefore, we believe that Insulin is the defining scientific development of Canada.

The discovery of Insulin was the first of its kind and the first successful treatment plan for diabetic patients.
The year insulin was discovered, diabetic children died within days, rarely months. With the application of Insulin into their bloodstream, their survival period increased to multiple decades.
This shows that Insulin affected a large number of people at the time, which makes Insulin historically significant.

The impact of Insulin didn't end in 1921.
After helping Canadian citizens with Insulin, it had gone worldwide.
As of July 2022, 7 million people in the US are dependent on Insulin.
Additionally, approximately 150-200 million depend on Insulin to survive.
This shows that Insulin still affects people 101 years after its discovery, which adds to its historical significance as well.
Satellites are crucial to the progression of technology and science. Satellites constantly provide us with detailed information about the land we live in. They provide information about Earth's clouds, oceans, land and air, not to mention the natural disasters they can detect.
A satellite in orbit
Satellites provided exponential progress to society. Satellites were the first piece of technology that let people make calls around the world. They provided a GPS, a global positioning system which can track where people and places are. Satellites also let us view the space around our planet for the first time, which was groundbreaking at the time. Therefore, satellites lead to mass progress in society with countless benefits, espacially in Canada where communication without satelites would be very hard and costly.
There are over 4500 satelites revolving around Earth showing how significant they are too us.

MRI (Magnetic resonance imaging) is a scan which allows strong magnetic fields and radio waves to examine detailed photos of any part inside the body, mainly the brain. In further detail MRI scans look for any damaged atoms by examining how they behave in a magnetic field.

The invention of the MRI was a big step to progress in society for diagnosing diseases in patients. On July 3, 1977, the first magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exam on a live human patient was performed. Today, It has become an extremely useful non-invasive method for visualizing internal bodily structures and diagnosing disease. Over 60 million scans are done worldwide including around 2 million in Canada, annually showing just how effective and efficient this technology is.
"The computer that could do it all"
The late 1970's saw a sudden spike in the interest of personal computers. During this time two individuals named Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, created a company named Apple Computers, Inc to completely change the idea of a personal computer. They succesfully did so with the Macintosh. Released on January 24, 1984, this extraordinary piece of technology completely changed how modern computers would function.

The first successful personal computer to use a user-friendly graphical user interface. Users could now access the internet without going through the hassle of dealing with complicated software and typing in commands , instead just having everything installed on floppy disks.
Apple and many other software companies have taken inspiration from the Macintosh, building newer and more technologically advanced hardware.

Youtube is a free video-sharing website that lets users create and view videos posted around the world. Chart of the Youtube user growth since 2006
An image of the Youtube interface from 2005
In 2005, when Youtube was released, it quickly rose to popularity boasting 30,000 visitors per day in May. The reason for Youtube’s popularity is due to the simplicity to create and publish content. Youtube provided people with a platform where they could essentially post anything they wanted to, within TOS (terms of service). Due to this, the viewers of Youtube had access to countless videos of different sorts. Therefore, Youtube was a groundbreaking entertainment and learning platform that affected millions of people and continues to, hosting 2.476 billion users worldwide as of July 2022.
Although, this creation doesn't do much for Canada as a country. As seen on the chart on the right, the viewership for Youtube by country is shown, and Canada is nowhere to be seen. Therefore, we believe that Youtube is a platform that has led to social progression, although not specifically for Canada. Hence, our rating of zero was given to Youtube.
