A terrible problem

The odds for young lives

American children aged 4-15 are 21 times more likely to get killed and people aged 15-24 are 23 times more likely.

Firearms are the leading cause of death for children and teens. This is uniquely an American problem.

Active shooter drills

How does this make you feel?

Do you think you feel safer or less safe in the U.S?

95% of American public schools carry out active shooter and lock down drills but what impact does this have on students mental wellbeing? It is reported that school communities experience ongoing distress and psychological trauma as a result of these "protective" measures.

Would you like your parents to have a gun at home?

Do you feel safe at school?

How do guns affect young people in America?

Do you think you would feel safe at school in the U.S or would it be scary?

Divided opinion

Children and teens in the U.S experience staggeringly high rates of gun deaths and injuries. Gun homicides, non fatal shootings and exposure to gun violence stunts lives. Exposure to gun violence has an impact on children's mental wellbeing and can affect their school performance.

Some people think that if there are stricter gun laws more people will get saved but others think that it is fine to have guns because it is better for self defence.

How many guns are there in America?

There are 393 million guns in America and only 331 million people, that's almost 120 guns per 100 people. That's more than double than the next country. Not every one owns a gun, but some people own lots of guns.

Mass shootings

There have been 71 mass shootings this year.

Why are U.S citizens allowed guns?

Written in the U.S constitutions second amendment (1791), It states, "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

This basically means that as free people Americans have the right to own and use a gun. This is a long standing law embedded in the U.S history since 1791.

Shooting statistics

4000 children and teens are shot and killed and 15000 are shot and wounded per year. That is 53 American kids per day.

An estimated three million children witness a shooting each year!
