Summary

The Setting Sun and the Rolling World is a short story by Charles Mungoshi about a young boy leaving home to explore the world. A farmer Musoni does not want his son to leave. But Nhamo wants to go find a better life. Musoni thinks he is to young and he is not ready for the world and the danger it comes with. Musoni had been through this before and in the end Musoni returned to the Farm. But Musoni gives Nhamo his blessing and Nhamo goes after his dreams. Facing the Rolling World.

Verb Moods

Verb moods- There are 5 different verb moods each describing the attitude the speaker indicates. Mood is the form of the verb that shows the mode or manner in which a thought is expressed.

Imperative- Is used to make a command or request.

Conditional and Subjunctive

Conditional has 2 different meaning such does Subjunctive. It can get confusing at points but the meanings are quite similar.

Subjunctive- express a wish, a hope, or a statement contrary to fact OR express a wish request, demand, or proposal

Conditional- refers to something that may or may not happen OR express uncertainty

First person point of view

Presents the story from the perspective of a character in the story. The character is the narrator. They use I, Me, We, My, to tell the the story of how they think, know, or feel the story is happening

Third person point of view

Tells the story from outside of the story. The narrator is not a character in the story. They use he, her, they to refer to the characters in the story. An omniscient is third person narrator who knows everything that happens and tell what the characters think and feel. Limited third person narrator show characters thoughts and feeling
