By Adriel Del Rosario

School duh

A mask such as a day of the dead one represents a calavera or a skull . Wearing a mask celebrates the deceased as a way of acknowledging death as a natural part of life.

About the mask

These masks are kept as trophies by the Aztecs and Mesoamerican civilizations. Spanish conquistadors 500 years ago landed in Mexico, they stumbled upon a group of natives practicing a ritual that seemed to mock death. The Spanish saw death as end of life and the natives saw it as continuation of life.
