The theme of Seek, by Paul Fleischman is that through every obstacle that is thrown your way, you'll always have your family. The love within your family will always be above all. This is shown through Rob trying to find his father. After Rob loses all hope, they connect. But this no longer matters to him. Lenny has not been a part of Robs life. Meaning, he doesn't see Lenny as family. Resulting in Rob disconnecting with Lenny, and investing himself with the family that's been with him his whole life.
