"I will not, I cannot! You loved me, John Proctor, and whatever sin it is, you love me yet!-" Act 1 Page 19
John Proctor had an affair with Abigail Williams while Abigail is still in love with John, he does not feel the same and does not like her back. Throughout the play we see Abigail from time and time attempting to pursue John, while he rejects her. These two quotes represent their relationship and their individual feelings about each other.
"Life, woman, life is God’s most precious gift; no principle, however glorious, may justify the taking of it. I beg you, woman, prevail upon your husband to confess. Let him give his lie. Quail not before God’s judgment in this, for it, may well be God damns a liar less than he that throws his life away for pride. Will you plead with him? I cannot think he will listen to another."- Act 5 page 122

Hale
John
Proctor
This quote symbolizes Hales change in values. He tries to persuade Elizabeth to get her husband to lie in order to save himself. He knows Elizabeth is the only one John wil listen to, but she does not promise a persuasion, but rather a talk. She is sure of her husbands morals, but Hale is in denial of the fact that he may have killed many of the townspeople, and is trying to save them.

The Girls
When John tries to explain to his wife Elizabeth why he was alone with Abigail, she starts to question him. She has still not forgiven him from their affair and explains that John is not the "good man" she thought he was. He proves himself to her at the end of the play when he sacrifices his life for his wife.
In this quote, Mary calls John out by saying that his self-worth completely lies on his name. In this scene he ends up signing the confession where the court will show the whole town which evidently destroys him. His name is now comprimized with witchcraft, and him being such an important part of their town now completely destroys his good reputation.
