Exagerration in animation is to remain true to reality, just presenting it in a wilder, more extreme form.

Animation tends to need this emphasis to convey subtleties that don't carry through very well otherwise.

Actions become more interesting when exaggeration makes it look more extreme and surreal.

Creates a feeling of uneasiness in the audience.
