What is freedom? Former U.S. President Herbert Hoover once indicated, "Freedom is the open window through which pours the sunlight of the human spirit and human dignity"; "For everything that is really great and inspiring is created by the individual who can labour in freedom" is Albert Einstein's opinion on "freedom"; Throughout human history, every man desires to be free, but not all are in agreement about what freedom means.

leads to the following definitions

C

Body part

On the one hand, from the historical point of view, in ancient Latin, the word "freedom" refers to liberation from bondage, and therefore, "freedom" was synonymous with "liberation" in the ancient Roman period. Later, it gradually evolved into the initial universal perception of "freedom" in the West, that is, self-reliance and freedom from coercion, which means the liberation of personal attachment, can be simply summarized as "living naturally and being emancipated without any restraints".

In ancient China, although the people were under the rule of the feudal monarchy for a long time, and there was never a class of "free people" as in the ancient Greek period, the idea of "freedom" can still be traced. The masterpiece of Chuang Tzu, a representative of Taoism, Wandering in absolute freedom laid the theoretical foundation for the development of the idea of "freedom", and expressed an absolute free outlook on life, holding that only by forgetting the boundary between the material and the self, and reaching the realm of "no self, no merit, no name" is true freedom.

On the other hand, from a contemporary perspective, freedom has been defined differently in different fields. In the field of psychology, freedom is to act according to the will of the individual, which is limited by the conditions of one's abilities, the information available to one, and the constraints of the external environment. If a person chooses his behavior according to his consciousness, he is free; if he is subject to external interference, he is not free. In the field of sociology, freedom is interpreted as acting following one's own will without infringing on others. Freedom here has the moral premise of good and evil within the sociological scope and is a fusion of subjective consciousness and social norms.

D

Conclusion part

What is freedom? It is the will, the strength, the ego... The debate over this question will never end, and people will find a more appropriate interpretation in their continuous exploration.
