The first cupcake recipe was invented in 1776. It was a light cake that was baked in small cups. The second cupcake recipe was invented in 1871. Then in 1919, Hostess introduced its very first cupcake.

In 1919 World War 1 ended and prohibition was about to begin. Women were ready to vote. This was also the year Hostess introduced its first snack cake- the cupcake.

The Hostess cupcake has come a long way sines its inception. It has always been made of devils food cake, but the first cupcake lacked the cream filling and the white loop- de- loop icing on the top.

Cupcakes were finally decorated with frosting in the 1920's. They were frosted with chocolate or vanilla frosting.
