Our assessment is that a California Super App is likely not viable due to the current ecosystem of apps. Within the space is fierce competition and divided market-share, making it extremely unlikely for California to be able to compete.
For the super app to be considered a success, it should serve as a "closed ecosystem of many apps that people would use every day" due to the many services it provides.
This would require the apps services to be dominant in each field, which is infeasible for the following reason
Competition in the United States for just one section of applications is already extremely fierce (Uber vs Lyft, Doordash vs Postmates, etc)
To successfully compete in each sector against companies dedicated in specializing in those specific areas is extremely unlikely. Additionally, the investment in creating & competing with those apps would likely be cost inefficient
As it stands, even the largest social apps such as Facebook and Snapchat do not individually hold the majority of market-share usage. Users will often use both instead of only using one central app (in comparison to China's WeChat)
The current market is too diverse for a super app to be able to be the primary application in several fields when each field is already so divided in usage
