About Zamboanga Peninsula

The Zamboanga Peninsula was previously known as Western Mindanao is an administrative region in the Philippines. It consists three provinces and these are Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, and Zamboanga Sibugay; and five cities Dapitan, Dipolog, Pagadian, Zamboanga, and Isabela. It is known as "City of Flowers" and is also described as "Asia's Latin City" that's why their main dialect in the City is Chavacano.

Singkil

Singkil originated from the Maranao people who inhabit the shores of Lake Lanao. It is particularly only for royalty women, serves as either a conscious or unconscious advertisement to potential suitors. The dance takes its name from the heavy rings worn on the ankles of the Muslim princess.

Kini - kini

Kini-kini represents the sophisticated women of the Royal Maranao. Movements and shapes of their walk are very articulate and their scarves represent their fluidity and grace. Their grace is a characteristic of their good education.

Asik

Asik is a solo dance from Mindanao that is usually done before the performance of singkil. The umbrella-bearing attendant performs this dance to win her sultan master's favor.

Pangalay

Is a traditional Tausug dance characterized by elaborate body postures and gestures and the graceful arm and hand movement of the dancer, amplified by the use of janggay or metal claws.
