About

The Anaconda Plan was a plan made by the North to defeat the South. It had three steps.

1. Block of the South's Ports

2. Capture the Mississippi river to cut the south in half.

3. Cave into the South and attack them.

The Plan was created in 1861.

A little about the creator

The Creator of the Anaconda Plan

The Creator was Winfield Scott. He was a military commander and a political candidate. He died in West Point N.Y. He ran for president in 1852 but was unsuccessful and lost against Franklin Pierce. The Souths commander used to work for Winfield Scott.

Before the Anaconda Plan was Made.

Before the Anaconda plan, the North was losing really badly. This was because the South was a more experienced army. The North didn't have a real army at all. Even though they outnumbered the South, they were losing pretty badly. From 1861-1862, the Union had only won two battles. Even though the Anaconda Plan had been created. This was because the original Anaconda Plan was rejected at first.

After the Anaconda Plan

After the Anaconda Plan, the North had a huge success. In the Battle of Palmito Ranch, the South finally surrendered. Since the North stuck to the plan and stayed in the game, the South literally ran out of people.
