The problem Nick Allen was facing in this book was that he made up a new word for pen, a frindle . But his Language Arts teacher Mrs.Granger did not let the kids at Lincon Elementery school use that word because it wasn't in the dictionary. If they did they would have to stay after school and write the scentence: I am writing this punishment with a pen. One hundred times

Nick is living in Westfield new Hampshire and he is known for being a trouble maker. Then he gets a big idea and creates a new word. Everyone at Lincoln Elementery school starts to use it and eventually everyone all over the world does too. His Language arts teacher Mrs. Granger, who loves dictionarys does not approve because Frindle is not in the dictionary.
I think the theme of this book is that you can do anything if you stick your mind to it.
