CHARACTER TRAITS

ROLE

  • Frankestein (monster) is the protagonist in the movie
  • As the movie progresses and new problems arise he starts to switch between antagonists and protagonists
  • He is also a fictional character who first appeared in Mary Shelley's 1818 novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus.
  • The monster is intentionally presented in such a manner so that it is not clear whether he is a hero or a villain.
  • What Shelley illustrates is that there is no clear-cut good guy or bad guy in the story; there are only victims.

ROLE

THE NOVEL

  • Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is considered to be one of the first science fiction novels ever written.
  • "Frankenstein" was written by Shelley as a teenager (18yrs)
  • The book is about a man called Dr. Victor Frankenstein who tries to create life.
  • In the novel, Dr. Frankenstein narrates the tale of how he created a monster from an inanimate body he constructed.
  • Frankenstein was the name of the scientist (Victor Frankenstein), not the monster.
  • The monster remains unnamed and is referred to as "monster," “creature,” "demon," and "it.”
  • The creator is horrified over the aberration he’s unleashed upon the Earth to give his creation a name

THE NOVEL

  • Frustration: when he realises that his master did his to him and he wants revenge on Dr.Frankestein

Frankestein (monster) also has human physical characteristics, such as a nose, two eyes, mouth, lips, teeth, limbs, etc.
