- In December of 2014, Marcus Eriksen, a well-known environmentalist who earned his PhD from University of Southern California, traveled every ocean and estimated that a minimum of 5.25 trillion particles of plastic that weigh about 268,940 tons are currently destroying our oceans and wildlife.
