Story Elements of LOTF

The LOFT Theme

Theme

  • losing your innocence

This mean that like they boy had to grow up and mature without any adults while they are all still kids and they should be out living life not stranded on a island alone with no adults.

  • evilness and human nature

This means that everyone has some type of evil in them, That every person has some evil and and that there is no good in the world even when it seems like there isnt any evilness

  • war and survival

in order to stay alive, the boys take extreme measures, and some lose themselves on the way. Survival displays a difference in instinct by dealing with the hardships of civilized isolation, causing innate responsiveness to surface

  • building a civilization

The boys try and build a civilization on the island that they are stranded on and they have no adults. and they boys all ahve to work together and keep organized.

  • mob mentality

they boys all do things in groupd never alone on the island. most of them have the same mentality or atleast a big group of them do. they all generally want the same thing

  • civilization vs. savagry

Civilization is the good inside of man to choose to live by rules, under authority, act reasonable, and peaceful with others. Savagery represents the evil of choosing not to live peacefully with others and not live by rules, but instead living to gain power over others and acting violently

symbols

the fire/smoke- the fire represents rescue and survival , and how they have a chance of getting saved and rescued off of the island

the conch- the conch shell represents The conch shell symbolizes the rule of law and civilization. It's used to call assemblies and as a kind of microphone that grants the right to speak to whomever holds it during assembly

plane crash-it represents the chaos of the outside world, and the war and everything that is going on outside of the island

piggys glasses-By allowing the boys to create fire, the first necessity of civilization, Piggy's glasses represent science and technology, mankind's power to transform and remake their environment to best suit its needs

the killing of pigs- the killing of the pigs represents how they are going savage and how they are trying their best to survive on the island

protagonist/ antagonist

protagonist / antagonist

the protagonist is Ralp because he helps all of the boys and lsitens to them, helps them get organized and leads them "have you been awake at night?" "Jack shook his head " they talk and scream. The littluns. Even some of the others. As if-" "As if it wasnt a good island." this shows ralph caring about the other boys and actually paying attention to them.

The antagonist is jack because all he does is focus on hunting and doesnt listen to or help the boys. All he does is make fun of them for beleiving in the bestie."rescue? yes, of course! all the same, id like to catch a pig first." this hsows that all jack cares about is hunting and catching a pig.

tone, setting, and conflict

Tone, setting, conflict

setting- is on an island in the middle of the ocean, with a mountain, beach and a lagoon that they settle on, a jungle that the boys dont go into, and a rocky cliff.

tone- pessimistic the boys think the worst is gonna happen to them and they have very little hope anymore and the boys are starting to change how they are

  • conflict (1)- The major conflict is that Ralph and Jack dont get along and all of the boys look at them as examples on the island. (person vs. person)
  • conflict (2) the group is clueless and confused when they are first on the island. then they are more senseable later on and then as they stay more and more on the island the boys and now they are starting to focus on other things other than surviving. ( person vs. nature)
  • conflict(3) the little boys and thier fear. The younger boys are fearful of many htings and thier fear orininates in thier longong fro the security of adult and more dependable leaders. They boy dont really have a dependable leader and there are no adults so them gradually hteir fear and anxiety grows and grows until it doesnt go away ever

Ralph or Jack

Jack or Ralph

I think that Ralph will be a better leader because Ralph keep the group together and makes them have rules and them organized and all that jack cares about is hunting and killing pigs. Ralph is also responsiable. He also understands the boys better and wants to help them, along with that he listens to the boys when they talk about thier nightmares and the beastie

chap. 6

As the boys sleep, military airplanes battle fiercely above the island. None of the boys sees the explosions and flashes in the clouds because the twins Sam and Eric, who were supposed to watch the signal fire, have fallen asleep. During the battle, a parachutist drifts down from the sky onto the island, dead
