What did the Earth look like?
The Continents
- The Earth looked similar to the Ordovician. Most of the land was together as one big super continent, Gondwana.
- There were six smaller continents surrounding Gonwana.
- The land was fairly flat. There were not as many mountains as today.
Climate

- The Silurian started out very cold from the Ice Age.
- The Earth warmed quickly, melting the ice caps.
- After the warming, the temperature was stable.
Life in the Silurian
Life
- Most life was in the ocean.
- Plants and animals that thrived during the Ice Age, were not suited for the warmer climate.
- More life grew on land than during the Ordovician.
