Dissociative identity disorder

Dissociative Identity Disoder (DID) is a type of mental health conditions. People with disorder have one or personalities also know as alters. These alters can "take control" of the body at different times also known as being "front". Alters can range from different ages, genders, personalites, ethnicites, likes, hobbies, dislikes, etc.

WHAT IS DID?

SIGNS/SYMPTIOMS

Signs/Symptoms

DID often forms from severe childhood abuse as a young child from the ages of zero to six. It is very rare and only affects up to only 0.01% of the population. It's often a trauma reponse to those who have suffered through a tramatic event. Signs of DID can range from common mental health conditions such as anixety and depression. However, one of the biggest signs of this disorder are the alternate persoanlities. Some can range from two to up to one hundred.

Alters

Alters are the alternate persoanlites that someone with DID has. These personalities can have their own view on life, likes, intrest, feelings, hobbies, etc. They can even have different allergies, other disorders such as depression, disbilities such as being deaf and more. There are different roles that these alters might have such as Caretaker or Trauma holders. Some may be aware that they share a body with others while some may not.

Common Misconceptions

DID, just like other mental illnesses is very misunderstood and is often representated in a negative light. Multiple personalities in the media has made a stigma that people with DID are in a way dangerous or will hurt others. This is very far from the truth as most people who do have DID are relativly harmless due to the severe trauma that they have expierenced.
