Messing with Mixtures: A scientific Dilemma
By: Alisa Khabenskaya, Giselle Arroyo, Rubaia Neha
Hypothesis
If the jars were missing one of the elements, zinc, sand, or salt, then the jars were left by the unknown copycat criminal.
Methods
1. Take out the zinc from the jar
2. Add water to the mixture and stir it
3. Use a filter paper to separate the sand from the mixture since the sand is insoluble in water.
4. Whatever is left of the mixture, transfer the mixture to a ceramic dish.
5. Use the heater to boil the liquid with ceramic dish.
6. After it boils if white substance is present it will indicate that salt is present.
