How they were made

Set a rectangular enclosure about 30m long and 2.5 in width

This enclosure would be fenced by joining the stakes with wattle ,then filled with mud and decaving vegetion

- Space between was filled with stones and earth

-Built up to several feet above water level

-Extra: A gait connecting the city and the causeway, would open and close to keep people or animals out.

FUN FACTS!

- To make the causeways stronger, the Aztecs made them as straight as possible and quite wide, even up to 45 Feet

- The word Chinampa it from the Nahuatl word, chinamitl, meaning: Fence surrouding a plot of land with water on at least from sides.

-Chinampas were invented by the Xochimiloc people. When the Aztecs conquered them, made use of the idea.

That is how and why the Aztecs built chinampas and causeways!
