Social Reconstructionism

By: Samantha Serrano, Jada Johnson, Maria Gonzalo, Jennifer Garza, Alondra

What is it?

A philosophical orientation based on the belief that social problems can be solved by changing, or reconstructing society.

The reconstructionist classroom contains a teacher who involves the students in discussions of moral dilemmas to understand the implications of one's actions. Students individually select their objectives and social priorities and then, with guidance from the teacher, create a plan of action to make the change happen.

Why it's important

  • Allows the students to be more socially aware
  • Allows them to be conscious of what they do for society
