Love Me - Katy Perry
“Trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson
"But now, I don't negotiate with insecurities
They always seem to get the best of me
I found I had to love myself, the way I wanted you to..." -Katy Perry
This song is all about learning to love yourself and not relying on anyone else to love you. The lyrics express how you should love yourself the way you would want someone else to love you, because at the very least, you will always have yourself. Everyone has insecurities sometimes, but the most important thing to remember is that if you love yourself, you will at least always be able to rely on yourself. In this way, this song strongly relates to the Transcendentalist tenet self-reliance, and greatly expresses Emerson's ideals as stated in the previous quote.

“Whoso would be a man must be a nonconformist,” -Ralph Waldo Emerson
This qoute shows that in order to be a true individual you must follow your own heart and not let other people's values stand in your way. Happy Feet does a good job of demonstrating this because Mumble, the main character, follows his heart and dances even though it is not traditionally what penguins are supposed to do in his world. It thus relates to Emerson's quote about being a nonconformist because to be a strong man, or individual, you must be willing to trust in yourself and shy away from society's standards.
