There are 4 different types of GPUs. There are integrated, PCI, AGP, and PCI-express GPUS. Integrated GPUs are when the GPU is connected to the mother board. The PCI GPUs are usually more out of date and lack on some options. The AGP GPU has 4 different speeds (1x, 2x, 4x, and 8x). The last type is PCI-express witch is the most advanced type of GPU because you can have sometimes have 2 of them depending upon the mother board that you have and it can be accelerated to 16x.
The gpus role is to rapidly manipulate and alter memory to accelerate the creation of images in a frame buffer intended for output to a display device.
Do all computers need a GPU?
Well known companies that produce GPU's
INTEL
ZOTAC
AMD
NVIDIA
EVGA
MSI
This is widely considered to be the best gpu that money can buy. Part of NVIDIA's 2nd gen RTX series, this gpu is designed for 8k gaming at 60 fps. That means that you can play games on a monitor that is 7680 pixels by 4320 pixels, and see 60 frames every second.
this is a good consumer graphics card for mid-tier gaming, and mid intensity programs. Coming in at $160 this is Gigabytes gtx 1050 Ti. It allows for 30 fps in most games, and allows you to preform many other tasks such as streaming videos and editing photos and videos. Overall, there are better graphics cards you can get for some more money, but it's a great card for it's price.
This is the heatsink, to help cooldown the rest of the gpu.
This is VRAM, notice how there are multiple.
This is where the gpu connects to the motherboard.
These are slots where you run a cable to connect them to your monitor. NOTE: monitors will only require one of them.
the memory of a graphics card is the same as RAM, but is faster, and allows faster clock rates. In addition, it has higher bandwidth
TDP, which stands for thermal design power, is the max temperature the gpu can run at when in use.
Means how and what pins are needed to plug the gpu into the pc
Overclocking is where you mod your PC to get better performance. It’s dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing and you could seriously damage your graphics card. Newer graphics cards have fail safes to ensure your graphics card doesn’t break, but it usually lowers the lifespan. Overclocking increases stress and temperature but takes away some of the restrictions on its use.
When you see something like this, example 256-bit, its referring to the width of the memory bus. Basically, the higher the number, the more memory gets transferred from the GPU to the video memory connection.
This is RAM on your graphics card that allows better performance for graphic intensive games. If you are using resolutions such as 4K on games that have really good graphics, you want 6 gb or more. It allows your graphics card to run faster with built in RAM, rather than transferring data to the motherboard.
A heatsink, is an object that takes heat from one object, and takes it to an area with lots of fins so the heat can spread out.
