Where/When

God's Origins

Where/When

Genesis 1:1

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

What began?

God didn't begin here

It would be redundent that it says the world was created at the beginning of the world

John 1:1-2

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God.

John 1:1-2

Revelation 12:7-10

7 Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, 8 but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. 9 And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. 10 And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God.

God reigns over the nations;

God sits on His holy throne.

The Lord’s throne is in heaven;

His eyes behold,

His eyelids test the sons of men.

Rev. 4:8

And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say,

And the commander of the Lord's army said to Joshua, “Take off your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.

1 Peter 1:15-16

but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

Perfection

Matt. 5:48

Righteousness/Perfect

You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Definition

having all the required or desirable elements, qualities, or characteristics; as good as it is possible to be.

Definition

absolute; complete

Perfect vs. Flawed

Perfect in all things

For God to be perfect there can be nothing that He is imperfect in

God is perfect in:

  • Love
  • Thought
  • Emotions
  • Decisions
  • Intentions

God's Perfect Intentions

Jer. 32:41

I, personaly, have this false idea in my mind of God being handcuffed by perfection

I will rejoice in doing them good, and I will plant them in this land in faithfulness, with all my heart and all my soul.

Intention vs. Results

We can, at times, feel handcuffed by trying to do the right thing.

Matt 5:39

God rejoices in doing good for His people

But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.

Righteousness

Righteousness

Psalms 89:14

Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne;

steadfast love and faithfulness go before you.

Righteousness

Psalms 89:14

Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne;

steadfast love and faithfulness go before you.

Justice:

the administering of deserved punishment or reward.

God's righteousness includes...

Punishment.

Perfect vs. Righteousness

Are they oppisite?

A perfect God would punish people, and make thier lives worse. Perfect includes loving, loving isn't punishment.

Parents love their children, but punish them.

Consequences of Perfection

Habakkuk 1:13

You are of purer eyes than to behold evil,

And cannot look on wickedness.

Why do You look on those who deal treacherously,

And hold Your tongue when the wicked devours

A person more righteous than he?

This is why perfection and righteousness go hand in hand. He musst be righteous to be perfect

Consequences of Perfection

Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
