Freshwater ecosystems.

Invasive species in freshwater ecosystems

The invasive species are destroying ecosystems. The type of animal in the picture to the right is a snakehead . The other animal in the picture to the left is a walking Catfish. All Walking Catfish have a special gill structure that allows them to breathe atmospheric air. They do not have legsThe snakehead is highly deadly. It is believed that the northern snakehead fish entered the United States when aquarium owners discarded their unwanted exotic captive species into local waterways. .

Locations

Most fish species are here from Asia.

Some are in California, some in Florida.

The Asian fish species that are being illegally imported from Asia are the walking catfish and the snakehead.

Long term consequences

Long-term disadvantages

Species like the asian carp have a perfect ecosystem to live here in America, rather than asia.

When the Invasive species in the freshwater have taken over, then the large fishing industries and things will have a lack of prized catches like lake trout.

Detail 2

  • The snakehead has been terrorizing the everglades for a while now.
  • The health of these ecosystems is important because all of the things living in them naturally are key to keeping this planet alive.

Detail 4

  • Scientists have come up with a way to detect the snakehead in water samples from the everglades.
  • If the snakehead is not controlled, it could lead to the destruction of the everglades, Florida's trademark and a huge tourist attraction.

Life

  • Held fishing contests for to clear the snakeheads out of the everglades.

  • Temperatures in freshwaters in the everglades is 66 farenheight
  • Some people have been Logging the forests and lakes and if they do that, then the soil becomes looser because the roots from the tree aren't holding it down anymore. then the soil can fall in the river or lake, killing the fish and crusteceans.

The Enviromental, Social, and Economic considerations

Enviromental, Social, and Economic Considerations

Enviromental-The Snakehead is invading the freshwater ecosystem.

Social- The U.S forest service and other fishing companies are holding fishing competitions for who can catch the most snakeheads.

Economic- Tax payers have to put in money to help remove these fish and not putting it towards another good cause.

Our Summary

Conclusion

The freshwater ecosystem is home to many species of wildlife including fish. Good and bad. In our presentation we have covered up pretty much all of the invasive species in the freshwater ecosystem like the snakehead and how it got here and the walking catfish. Also, the video about the asian carp . The Snakehead is notorious to attack people and also known to have killed a hunter and his dog when they were hunting.
