What caused World War I?

World war 1 was caused when Archduke Franz Ferdinand, leader of Austria-Hungary, was assassinated by Gaurilo Princip. He was linked with a terrorist group in Serbia, however Austria-Hungary's government blamed Serbia's government for the assassination, and Russia immediately defended Serbia. This caused Germany to declare war on Serbia.

The allied powers were Russia, France, British Empire, Italy, United States, Japan, Rumania, Serbia, Belgium, Greece, Portugal and Montenegro.

Germany was economically devastated after a draining defeat in World War I. Due to the Versailles treaty, Germany was forced to pay incredibly sizable reparations to France and Great Britain. Losing all this money caused Germany to print lots of money making the money barely worth anything.
