In The Miserable Mill, the setting takes place in Lucky Smells Lumber mill and in Dr. Georgina Orwell's optometrist office.

The conflict in the book is when Count Olaf finds the children and hypnotizes Klaus. After Violet and Sunny realize Klaus is being hypnotized, they try to save their brother.

The plot of the story is the children find Lucky Smells Lumbermill and end up working for a stay there. Count Olaf ends up working at the optometrist office at Lucky Smells and hypnotizes Klaus. Violet and Sunny are finding a way to escape Count Olaf and save Klaus.

The theme in The Miserable Mill is to choose good and never give up. Even when contiuously being chsed by evil, the kids never give in and never give up.
