Baptism is a catholic sacrament and ritual that shows the beginning and start of your religious belief in the lord Jesus Christ. This sacrament has been presented for many, many years now, from the time of Jesus until now.
The symbols that are shown in a catholic baptism are usually a cross, a dove and a bowl of water; The cross representing Jesus’ death, the dove representing peace and the bowl of water representing the baptism.
Baptism Ritual
In a baptism mass, what happens is, the baby (or any age) is laid down with the god parents’ help, and is sprinkled with water on the head by the priest; The reason they sprinkle the forehead with water is because it is, a sign of purification, regeneration and admission to the catholic church.
Baptism In The Bible
In the bible, John the Baptist would baptize people in the river Jordan, and this was at the time of Jesus. During that time John the Baptist was asked by Jesus to baptize him, which he did, although back then baptisms were presented very differently, the priest would dip the whole body into, usually a lake or a a river, instead of just sprinkling the head. Age doesn’t really matter for a baptism, because if they do it as a baby they can’t really make a choice, although later on they will do their confirmation which is them truly confirming their belief.
Eucharist is the first taking of the bread and wine (the body and blood of Jesus) in the Catholic church. The reason communion is so important to the catholic religion is because, the taking of the bread and wine are supposed to represent Jesus’ memory.
The two key symbols in a catholic Eucharist is bread and wine, the bread represents the body of Jesus, and the wine represents the blood of Jesus.
In the duration of this sacrament what's supposed to happen is, you walk up to the priest, they give you a piece of bread and a sip of wine, the priest says “the body of christ” and your supposed to say “amen”.
The first communion and the taking of the bread and wine in general, came from the Last Supper story in the bible: which is when the disciples eat and drink together for the very last time before Jesus is crucified.
Confirmation is you as a baptized catholic, fully confirming, modifying and admitting yourself as a full member of the Catholic church.
Confirmation Symbolism
The fruits and gifts of the holy spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control; We are then to choose a few of those that relate to us and that we have and put an explanation on it in our projects.
What happens is, the bishop lays he’s on your head, and says “(your chosen saint) …… be sealed with the holy spirit” and you say “amen”.
Just before your confirmation your teachers would usually assign you a project and you would have to choose a specific saint that has similar qualities as you and use it for your confirmation and to research on.
