Each part of the Food Web

The food web of the amazon rainforest consists of producers, primary consumers, secondary consumers, tertiary consumers, and decomposers.

Each part of the Food Web

Producers

The producers in the Amazon rainforest recieve their energy from the sun. Some producers are seeds, banana trees, canopy trees, and bamboo. They feed the primary consumers.

Producers

Primary Consumers

Primary consumers are animals that eat the producers. Some examples of primary consumers in the Amazon rainforest are sloths, monkeys, frogs, and grasshoppers.

Secondary Consumers

Secondary consumers get their energy from the primary consumers. In the Amazon rainforest some secondary consumers are owls, iquanas, and ocelots.

Decomposers

Decomposers get their energy from any dead animals or plants. They break down the nutrients and take them in. This is the last part of the food chain. Some examples of decomposers in the Amazon rainforest are saprophyte and earth worms.

Producers

Bamboo

Bamboo is a type of grass, that can grow to the size of a tree. They all flower and seed at different times.

Bamboo

Canopy Trees

Canopy trees are big trees that produce seeds and leaves for primary consumers. It also provides shelter for many animals including anteaters and frogs.

Canopy Trees

Banana Trees

Banana trees are giant herbs that produce bananas. These fruits are popular among a few primary consumers.

Banana Trees

Bromeliads

Bromeliads are a family of flowers. There are over 2,700 species of bromeliads. One type of bromeliad that you probably know is pineapple. They produce leaves that primary consumers eat.

Bromeliads

Primary Consumers

Sloths

Sloths are very slow mammals that eat the leaves from canopy trees. The two types of sloths are two-toed and three-toed. They are related to armadillos and anteaters.

Sloths

Monkeys

There are many types of monkeys in the rainforest including spider monkeys, howler monkeys, and squirrel monkeys. They eat bananas from the banana trees and bamboo.

Monkeys

Frogs

There are over 5,000 frog species, and most of them live in the rainforest. One food source of frogs are canopy trees.

Frogs

Grasshoppers

Grasshoppers are in the family of insects. One of the things they eat are bromeliads.

Grasshoppers

Secondary Consumers

Owls

There are also many types of owls in the rainforest. Some include, the spectacled owl, and the golden pygmy owl. One thing that owls eat are frogs.

Owls

Iguanas

Iguanas are reptiles. One thing that they eat are grasshoppers. Iguanas are one of the largest living lizards in the Amazon Rainforest.

Iguanas

Ocelots

Ocelots are large cats, that feed upon secondary consumers such as sloths and monkeys. They are about twice the weight and size of a regular house cat.

Ocelots

Saprophyte

Saprophyte is a fungus that gets energy from dead organisms. It breaks down the organism. Saprophyte decompose plants and animals.

Saprophyte

Earthworms

Earthworms are decomposers that also breaks apart dead organisms. They decompose decaying plants and animals.
