How are our minds manipulated by outside sources such as the media, government, and peers? Is this always "bad" for us?
Defintion: information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view.
The encouragment of following an idea or system because others do. As more people come to believe in something, others join regardless of underlying evidenece.
Bandwaggoning is commonly used in sports. Such as, your NFL football team doesn't make the playoffs, so you decide to change you favorite team to the one that most likely projected to win the Super Bowl. In BNW bandwagonning can be realted to the use of soma. Although they were conditioned to take it, many took it because it was the commonly used way to solve problems so even if it felt wrong people would take it because everyone else did.
An example of Appeal to authortity is when Einstein said
The idea that a claim is automatically true if an expert on said issue claims it is true.
An example of appeal to authority in our society is during WW2, Einstein said that peace is always the best strategy. Just because he was considered the smartest man at the time doesn't mean that peace is always the best option.
Giving partial information that is true to give an intended outcome.
The government and media in our modern society uses half-truths in similiar ways to the BNW world order. It is used to highlight the positives of a certain decision all while leaving out the negative outcomes. Saying that us as citizens will gain more benefits from the government without saying that taxes will go up is a half-truth.
Definiton: The use of an event that generates euphoria or happiness, or using an appealing event to boost morale.
Euphoria can be created by declaring a holiday, making luxury items available, or mounting a military parade with patriotic messages.
Our minds are manipulated by outside sources through various uses of propaganda that come from biased sources that may lead us to making unedcated conclusions.
Take information from various credible sources before making important decisions.
Keep you opinion unbiased so you can make smart decisons that are based on evidence and the well being of you and you peers.
Be vigilant about keeping an eye out for the different ways of government and media manipulation and know what can come out of certaiun decisions.
Society was instable because of the many methods of manipulation and propaganda through conditioning, soma, and the caste systems. There was no individuality which eventuall lead to rebllion and a failed utopia.
