countries (UK & US) demand?

- Who was blamed for the tragedy?

Lessons Learned

Did you know?

Also the day after the ship sank on, April 15th, the survivors lined up and got a payment for the shipwreck.

The US inquiry was looking for someone to blame for the tragedy, while the British inquiry was trying to establish the facts so that the disaster didn’t happen again.

The US inquiry blamed the chairman William Smith for the disaster and the british board for not updating the ships lifeboats and poor standards during its construction.

Back then both inquiries recommended calling for ships to be safer and that they should be built to higher standards, also that they needed to make effective use of the radio on the ship and to carry lifeboats enough for the number of passengers onboard.

Today to prevent something like that from happening again there are something called Ice Patrol, that is either ships or airplanes equipped with radar, so they can locate and log all the icebergs to every ship in the area. This has saved many lives.

More lifeboats on the ship. They learned that the hard way.

Nowadays ships have lifeboats beneath the promenade decks, so the passengers on the ship can walk around and have a clear view across the sea.

Radio contact also became a major navigation and safety aid at sea, because they can contact someone if they have any problems.

Search and Discovery

Where did they found the shipwreck?

How deep did it sink?

When was it discovered?

Who discovered it? - Robert Ballard.

A little after midnight on September 1st a ship that was searching for the shipwreck of Titanic began noticing small pieces on metal on their monitor. At first they just saw a boiler, but then a little later found the ships hull.

After 73 years the ship was finally discovered. It was found southeast of Newfoundland, Canada on a seabed which scientists named Titanic Canyon.

End of an era - What happened after the tragedy?

The ship was built to be the second in a trio of luxurious ferries, the Titanic which sank on its voyage.

The sinking of the Titanic symbolized the end of the Progressive Era, a period where America set out to end corruption in the world, turning towards technology. Everybody was amazed by the Titanic, the invincible ship. She (the Titanic) symbolized nobility, royalty, wealth. But when she sank, so did the ideas of the Progressive Era.
