Q1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Date

Music Video

My music video has a type of mellow style with a Drama/Horror genre of the video but we use The Beatles "A Day in the Life” which is a ballad. Our group all had as different interest in music so with of all our interest we made our music video.

In my group it consisted of Marcus Lam who is more into K-pop and pop. Danny who is more into Metal. While I was into Hip-hop/Rock.

With all these interest we were able to make our music video into a narrative of a man who is depressed and doesn’t truly realise he has depression so there is a being that is following him around, but doesn’t realise he is there.

Our narrative developed through all of interests coming into one, with the depression of metal and rock, the colourfulness of pop and the quick camera cut like Rap/Hip-hop.

Redevelopment

Re-development

We had a setback as a group with making a first video in which we had not communicated as much as we wanted to and improvised our first video which turned out very poor. We had poor camera shots, edits, and most importantly we had no narrative.

We all then sat down had a conversation which we recorded and posted on our blog, and we made the idea and basis for the second video.

We saw how vital the communication between the groups was and decided to rethink what had happened and introduced a whole new video.

However, we still used a couple points and shots from our first video into our second, and still had similarities in our new video but mostly differences which we learned from.

Challenges

With the entire group having many ideas we challenges many of the media products we all individually researched about. This research supported our media product significantly but we still had our own idea for what we wanted.

I will go over my vital research media products that I believed would support our media product to challenge real media products.

One point that was vital was the video I looked into was strawberry fields which I saw their idea of filming in a park, with this idea I was able to make a setting for most of our video. From the setting we were also able to make the narrative of friends and family being able to see the depression while the main character cannot.

The second point that was the vital for the video was the idea of a character being stalked and chased without the main character realising it. I saw this in Kid Cudi's Day n' Night who was being stalked by fictional characters. This also helped the narrative of the video with the main character being chased by depression without even knowing it.
