The scan generates a file .3ds that stores all the scanned photos.
The RTM process can access these 3ds files with the Itero Software.
IOScans do not present distortions since they are not physical impressions, but they might present scan defects.
These defects are related to the scan technique used by the doctor or with Software
problems.
Defects or codes found on IOS are:
Important:
3M,SIRONA,3D Shape scans, Should not be sent to RTM
There is no .3d file containing the photos/shots.
Are generally found on the incisal edges.
These defects are associated with bad scanning techniques.
Scans should be taken at a 45º angle but if the doctor scans a tooth at a straight down angle this could prevent an ideal union of the images.
To measure the size of the step activate the “Grid” and place one of the grid lines parallel to the base of the double imprint.
• Go to Options tab.
• Check the Metric box.
• Adjust the “Minimal size” box to 0.1mm.
Refers to an incorrect bond of the scanned images.
Don’t send to RTM if the defect can be detailed.
Can be detailed: don’t send to RTM
Additional Premolar should be
sent to RTM
Cannot be detailed: must
be fixed with RTM
If the defect affects the
anatomy of a tooth.
Caused by incorrect bonding of the scanned images.
Can be fixed with RTM:
Always send for its correction.
Bridges or pontics might generate missing data so the scan must NOT be rejected.
Review X-rays, photos and Prescription Form to identify the presence of a bridge.
Cannot be fix with RTM:
Missing Data due to bad scanning techniques, to review activate the Cuts tool.
Cannot be fix with RTM:
When the Software hides an entire scan shot or a specific surface that the doctor did scan correctly.
Generally, all adjacent teeth are complete.
Can be fixed with RTM:
Always must be send for its correction.
This defect is caused by the presence of dust particles, scratches, water or saliva on the Scanner lens, to review activate the Cuts tool.
Cannot be detailed:
Must be fixed with RTM
Can be detailed: Don’t send to RTM.
When the defect affects one or more surfaces without
compromising heights, angles or tooth width.
Cause of defect when soft tissues are captured while are taking images (tongue, cheeks, lips)
Can be detailed:
Don’t send to RTM
Cannot be detailed:
Must be fixed with RTM
The defect affects heights, angles or teeth width.
They can be seen as rugged surfaces and irregularities that could be present all over the scan or only on certain surfaces.
Scenario 1:
Scenario 2:
If the lines are very deep and compromise the anatomy and height of the teeth.
If the lines or rugged surfaces do not compromise the anatomy or the height of the teeth.
Cannot be detailed, show to support staff and evaluate if the doctor has to be notified by
through CCRS.
Scanning of the plaster models must be accepted; the CAD Designer must proceed as a regular treatment.
Cannot be fix with RTM

1. Distortion was corrected:
RTM will upload a new version on Align cloud storage.
2. Possible MES comments:
Some distortions were corrected: if a scan presents one or more defects, it is possible to find
a comment on MES from RTM saying that only some defects were corrected, but not all of them.
A new revision will be uploaded toAlign cloud storage and to the PDBrowser named as bite fixed.
DDT must review the untreated distortion and determine if it can be detailed, or if it needs to
consulted through Customer Service or if the distortion is too severe evaluate if the scan must be rejected.
Distortion NOT corrected: RTM will return the treatment with a MES comment saying that the
distortion was not possible to eliminate. DDT must review the untreated distortion and determine
if it can be detailed, if it needs to be consulted or if it requires a reject.
If the defect code present could not be corrected witch RTM and there are no records available to detailing it, a Reject should be send it to the doctor.
On the Reject Form there is a list of codes to be used for IOS defects. The correct use is the following:
When taking Screenshots consider:
For Missing Data and Dirty Scans, verify if the “Cuts tool” is active, since it will show the areas that were not captured in the scan.
For other codes such as missing tooth, stitching and excess material, it is not necessary to activate the Cuts tool when taking the screenshots.
Applicable only for the non certificate CAD Designer.
Defects must be reported to RTM placing the following information in “Prod Comments” on MES:

Send the treatment to the
Treat Support pool.
