- He was born in 1510 Salamanca, Spain, and at the age of 25 he arrived in New Spain (today Mexico) to try his luck in the New World.

- In 1537 he moved to Nueva Galicia to assume the position of governor.

- The following year he obtained financing and advanced an expedition of 800 Mexican Indians and about 340 Spaniards who had contributed their own money to finance the expedition with the intention of obtaining land and being advanced of land.

- The expedition would depart on May 9, 1540 and would enter following the coast of New Spain inside the Gulf of California, then continue north to Yuma, an area that is now Arizona.

- Coronado explored the West in 1540; While he sent García López de Cárdenas to explore the east side where the Hopi Indians were located, they also met the Colorado Canyon, historiography baptized this fact as the Tiguex War.

-Coronado continued as Governor of Nueva Galicia until 1544, and he later retired to Mexico City. Subsequently, he died of a serious illness on September 22, 1554.
