Indirect Expression

of a Need

1.

Mom makes an indirect or passive expression about a need or desire that isn't being met.

" I do miss you ya know"

"You're always so busy."

Passive Expression

"I just want you to

tell me things!"

Expression

"I haven't seen you

in almost two weeks!

Mom will use statements that feel general, passive, or indirect. Sometimes, it's not the words she says, but the tone I hear it in. Other times, it can be the same/similar statement repeated in a short amount of time.

I feel that her expressions are weighted and beg a response; both in the moment (verbal ackowledgement/answer), and over time (action).

Photos of food, etc. with a text saying "Just me tonight!"

"You, your brother, and your dad are out of town this weekend."

Underlying Need

Need

I often interpret my mom's expressions to have an underlying need. Usually, I sense a need based on how many times she expresses something.
