Korean VS Vietnam Wars

Background Information

Vietnam War: Before the Vietnam war, Vietnam was part of the French Indochina until 1954 where they signed the Geneva Agreements which gave up the land and stopped the conflicted.

Background

Korea war: After WWII the U.S. and the Soviet Union took control over Korea to help it rebuild. When the U.S. and Soviet Union left Korea they left governments there when they left North korea wanted to take over South and control all of Korea. So they launched a full scale war on them. The U.S. then went and helped south in the fight.

Compare and Contrast Basics

The Basics

Differences:

- Communism won in Vietnam

- In Korea,communists were pushed back to the north

Similarities:

-Both Vietnam and Korea were split in two

-Both had different governments that they wanted

-Both had the United States helping those that opposed communism.

The Context

Similarities:

  • The U.S. was afriad of growing communism in both wars.

  • The U.S. fought in both of them to stop the grow of communim around the world.

  • They both used gerilla warefare

Differences:

  • One was fought in Korea and one was Fought in Vietnam.

  • President Kennedy died in the vietnam war not the Korean war.

  • there was a lot of Chemical weapens used in the vietnam war and not a lot used in the korean war.

The People

Differences:

-This was the first war that the United States lost

-Korea and Vietnam both had different leaders that led their countries.

-The United States were succesful in Korea but not in Vietnam.

Similarities:

-In both wars The United States got involved

-Each side were fighting for the future of their country and government

-Both sides of the communists wanted to combine the divisions of the country to become one.

Conclusion

Keypoints: South Korea holds out against North Korea and ends in a stalemate. North Vietnam invades South Vietnam and becomes a communist country.

Conclusion

Important Similarities and Differences: United States fought in both Vietnam and Korea to stop the spread of communism. In both cases it was a communist north and capitalist south. Vietnam war was 20 years while the Korean war lasted only 3. Korea ended in a stalemate.

Reflection Questions: These wars were caused by the seperation of countries. With communism winning this led to the spread of more communism. Be careful of what conflict you get yourself into. Division leads to conflict
