Learning Environment

QUOTE: “We need young adults who can think and act creatively, who value human life, are able to make discerning decisions and know how to communicate and negotiate rather than fight. It is our responsibility as guardians of these values to establish learning environments that foster freedom and responsibility.”

Learning Environment

L

The learning environment is linked to our previous understanding of constructivist theory in which we recognize students have stages of development and are able to recognize their abilities.

Learning

Theory

Piaget's Constructivist Theory

In Piaget’s constructivist theory, the structures and functions of human development are universal, occurring in unalterable sequential stages, with individuals varying only in their pace of learning according to their interactions with the physical and social environment.

These stages in development are measured in how students interact, on how they develop together and how they work together for a common goal.

It takes account for the development of the students and recognizes their abilities and builds on the inclusivity we want in the classroom.

Application

Application in the Classroom

We facilitate a classroom that is welcoming and organized. This includes a floorplan that is welcoming to develop activities, relax between lessons and being able to transition from activity to activity.

Discussion:

How would you make your classroom more organized?

What steps would you take to make your lessons more organized?

How do you transition from activity and lesson to another activity or lesson?

Importance of Communication

Students want ownership of their education and the ability to provide ideas that impact their learning.

The most essential element is the importance of communicating social and educational issues affecting their learning.

Classroom

Students are able to provide feedback on what they are learning, speak up on their education and to think beyond the classroom.

As well as communicate about curriculum and ensure that students have equal say on their education. That is key because we as teachers we must allow students to talk about their education and what changes need to be made.

Student Learning

Achieving mastery and competence through guided practice and effort through different activities and lessons.

Reflection:

R

We want students to be able to think and act independently and being able to understand the fundamentals of their learning.

Students should be able to explore and understand how they are impacting their education.

The quote makes us recognize that students are part of a long-term strategy to improve their education and put effort into their abilities.

It is why we must work to be compassionate and reward for effort over good grades.
