Integrated X-ray and MR Imaging

XMR

  • part or all of an endovascular procedure to be performed under MR guidance while having the X-ray cath lab as an easy fall-back position

Introduction

X-ray

X-ray

  • Fluoroscope suite
  • Angiography
  • clearly shows the structure of blood vessels and allows us to navigate them
  • maps the blood vessels and allows specialists to thread a catheter to the destination (Ex: clot)

MR

MR

  • Ideal for displaying soft tissues and monitoring the progress of a procedure
  • Significantly reduces the radiation dosage of using x-ray only

Other Suites

Other Possible Operative Suites

Cath Lab

  • Stroke Patients
  • Blood flow restoration in the brain
  • Stent maintenance
  • Balloon angioplasty
  • Anti-tumor drug delivery

Process

Structure

Structure

  • "Floating" patient table allows patient to slide to and from each suite
  • Suites installed separately in adjoining bays
  • lead/copper shielded sliding door separates them

Procedure

Procedure

Catheter operations

  • X-ray used to guide catheters to site
  • Patient switched to MR side for drug/device release and rest of operation
  • only use radiation when you absolutely have to
  • beneficial to children
