Brief Explanation of the Theory

Frederick Irving Jerzbergs basically theorized that employee satisfaction comes from two different factors: hygiene and motivation. Hygiene Factors are sometimes referred to as "dissatisfiers" since they may both induce employee unhappiness when absent and little motivation when present. Salary, job security are examples of workplace hygiene elements.Employee dissatisfaction may result from poor sanitary conditions, which might weaken motivation and perhaps increase turnover. However, enhancing these aspects typically won't lead to more motivation; rather, it only eliminates dissatisfaction. While Motivators, as opposed to hygiene factors, are factors that directly affect employee motivation and satisfaction. They frequently have to do with the nature of the work itself and the personal development of the staff members.Achievement, acknowledgement, responsibility, and chances for development are some examples of motivators. Employees are more engaged, fulfilled, and motivated at work when their employers provide them opportunity to experience these motivators.

By who and when it was developed;

American psychologist Frederick Irving Herzberg developed this theory in 1968.

when and by whom it was developed

Herzberg's Two-Factor Theory suggests that the absence of hygiene factors can lead to dissatisfaction, but their presence does not necessarily motivate. Motivators, on the other hand, are essential for increasing job satisfaction and motivation. By addressing both sets of factors in the workplace, employers can create an environment that not only prevents dissatisfaction but also promotes motivation and job satisfaction among employees.

How the theory can connect to the workplace and help motivate employees.
