Present Simple

am/are/is + past participle

Past Simple

was/were + past participle

infinitive + ed

Continuous Tenses

I opened the door.

> The door was opened (by me).

auxiliaries

auxiliary + be + past participle

will, should, could etc.

I will open the door.

> The door will be opened (by me).

Present continuous

am/are/is + being + past participle

am / are + verb+ing

They are painting the school

> The school is being painted (by them).

Past continuous

was/were + being + past participle

was / were + verb+ing

They were painting the school

> The school was being painted (by them).

Active Passive

Steps:

1. move the direct opject (what) to the front

2. identify the verb tense

3. change the tense and possibly add an agent

(note: to be + past participle!)

Perfect Tenses

Present Perfect

Past Perfect

I have opened the door.

had + past part.
