Training Department

ABOUT

Improves cognitive abilities such as attention and reasoning by increasing working memory capacity.

Working Memory

What is working memory?

  • A system for the temporary storage and manipulation of information, necessary for wide range of cognitive tasks.
  • The ability to keep information in your mind for a short period of time (seconds) and to use the information in your thinking and respond to immediate demands.

When do we use working memory?

  • Processes all stimuli we encounter

  • Delegates it to the different parts of our brain that can take action

  • Allows us to filter/block out necessary information/distraction

  • It keeps us updated on what's happening - and keeps us focused on what matters

  • We use it to read, solve problems, remember tasks/directions, items we need for tasks, to organise our thinking and to concentrate

Situations where we use WM

  • When we remember PIN number, phone number, web address while we look for our pen.

  • Following spoken direction to a destination while driving.

  • Mental arithmetics.
