U-2 Plane
In 1960, confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union began with the shooting down of a U.S. U-2 reconnaissance plane over the Soviet Union. It caused the collapse of a summit conference in Paris between the United States, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, and France.
Brinkmanship
Brinkmanship is the practice of trying to achieve an advantageous outcome by pushing dangerous events to the brink of active conflict. During the Cold War, it was constantly used by the U.S. and Soviet Union. They used nuclear weapons to discourage communist expansion around the world.
Sputnik
Sputnik was the first artificial Earth satellite. It was launched into an elliptical low Earth orbit by the Soviet Union on October 4, 1957 as part of the Soviet Space Program. The Sputnik made it possible to test satellite pressurization, study radio wave transmission and the density of the atmosphere, and it allowed scientists to learn how to track objects in orbit.
Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM)
The first ICBMs were deployed by the Soviet Union in 1958, along with more being fired by the U.S. and China years later. It was designed to deliver nuclear weapons. This missile strengthened the military and gave the impression that America was behind the Soviet Union in the development of Science and technology.

The Central Intelligence Agency was created in July of 1947 by Harry S. Truman. Their goal was to gather intelligences and carry out secret operations against unfriendly governments. They grew tensions with the USSR following the end of WWII.
Neil Armstrong
He was a U.S Navy pilot, famous for being the first person to set foot on the Moon. During the Cold War, Armstrong flew 78 combat missions. He created tension by enabling the rapid development of technologies that paved the way for space exploration.
