People who play sports when they are younger have reported having better mental health later in their lives then people who didn' t play sports.
In an article written by Jhon Guarin about a research study that he ran on the relationship between being involved in sports and improved mental health he stated that his findings showed that in secondary school children who were involved in more years of team sports had lower depressive symptoms in their early adult life (Guarin 18).

It submerges them into a group of people who have similar lifestyles as them and allows them to make friends who have similar interests which will in turn improve their mental health because they will feel like they belong.
Being involved in sports can have a huge impact on how the athletes involved view their bodies.

In the article by Guarin he states that “the participants who claimed they often practiced sports with sports clubs were more positive towards the future” (Guarin 14). This would benefit the mental health of these athletes because most of the time, in people who suffer from depressive disorders or suicidal thoughts, they don’t see anything for themselves in their future and see their lives as useless. When involved in a sport athletes will begin to have a more positive outlook on their future which will in turn lead to better mental health.
