Lewis Hamilton has been established as one of the all time greats in Formula 1. Hamilton has it all now: luxury cars, mansions, and is one of the most famous people on earth, but it wasn’t always so easy.
Born on January 7th, 1985 in Stevenage, England Lewis Hamilton was born mixed-race with his mother being white and his father being black. His parents divorced when he was 2 so he lived with his mom (Carmen Larbalestier) and half-sisters (Samantha and Nicole) until 12 when he started to live with his dad (Anthony Hamilton). This caused Hamilton to face many hardships in his early life not only because his parents were divorced but also because he faced constant bullying from his peers because of his race.
When he was 6, Lewis Hamilton’s father bought him a go kart and said he would support his career as long as he tried hard in school. Hamilton still faced problems because of his race in his go-kart competitions, but that wasn’t the only issue, Hamilton's family was not very wealthy growing up causing Anthony Hamilton to work up to 4 jobs at once to help support his son’s racing and attend Lewis’s races. Even early in Hamilton’s Racing career he was winning and breaking records by becoming the youngest driver to ever win the British karting championship.
He had attracted so much attention because of his skill that, in 1998, he was enrolled in the McLaren F1 drivers academy. He then won the European championship with maximum possible points. He continued to dominate in karting, then in the Formula Renault series, then formula 3 and finally He made it to Formula 1. Hamilton was an almost instant success winning his 6th grand prix in Canada, after that it was all uphill with Hamilton winning in 2008, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. He is now the Most decorated F1 driver especially after being knighted after his 7th World Championship victory.
